Moving the site hosting...

I have moved my hosting from Hostway to Go Daddy. I was going to switch to my friend Dave's server...but I do like having the option of being able to get mad at my web host if they do something wrong.

I've also switched the email from Go Daddy to Google Apps for your domain, since I like how their email works...

This has, however, led me to a discovery that I'm not a huge fan of. Apparently Gmail no longer allows you to check other gmail accounts...and since the email account is now technically a gmail account I can't have one centralized account to check all my email...annoying...but not a huge deal.

After some initial frustration (no ssh to the go daddy server) I was able to get things setup pretty quickly when I rethought about how to do things. It took me longer to uploaded the image files on my site, then it did to transfer over the data for the MySQL db and setup MovableType.

I signed a pretty lengthy contract, to get hosting for a long time...plus my other domains now forward to this one...so...I guess it's moved now.

a few adjustments

After a few adjustments, with the help of my co-worker Keith, my site looks pretty much like it's supposed to in IE6. IE6 apparently has some issues with absolute positioning.

Update to the Movable Type

So I was getting some odd errors with the Movable type, so I decided to reinstall, and in the progress of doing that I also decided that it'd be a good thing to put the back end in a mySQL database...So now it's backed by mySQL rather then just local text file db's.

Everything should be the same, but back in the administration things seem to be quite a bit faster when pulling up data.

That was annoying

Well that's fixed.

So apprently I was missing mt-site.js, and so some functionality realted to TypeKey and etc wasn't working.

It took a bit, but I did find the solution.

And it should be fine now.

removal of some stuff and I noticed some other stuff.

So Seti at Home, is now all folding into BOINC, so having the old Seti at home progress reports display is kinda silly. So I removed them from the site.

I did, however, find a site that has my BOINC stats.

Kinda cool.

I've also added the copyright notice to all the pages on the site and updated some of the meta tags, to be closer to what is on the page.

I've noticed a thing. a lot of my entries are getting included into "linked content"/auto-crawler sites. So if you look for a site about sleep studies, there's something in there from mine. I don't know if I should be ticked off by this or not. It does have a link back to my content, so...I don't know.

yeah yeah

So I did do it, I guess.

I've thought about it for awhile, not that I get a crapload of hits here, but it would be nice if this website would pay for itself, rather then me having to pay for it.

I added ads on my website, and also google search.

If It does earn money, then, well, more power to it, but if not, you know, I'll just take the ads down.

We'll see what happens.

Yeah, I'm a sellout.

New part of the website!

So on my personal website I added a prepackaged board to it. It's made by IkonBoard and I used them in the past when I ran a website for a local sports radio station.

Yes, it's not my own work, but who has time outside of work to make a message board?

Go to my message board:

/board/

Update 06/19/2009: Removed link - SDK

web site redesign

So I have redesigned my website over the weekend. Although many parts aren't done yet, it is slowly getting closer.

I like it, I liked my old one though, too. But it's nice to do something for myself and not have to check with others before I make changes with it.

So what do you all think of my new design?
