Flying Mango

So after missing eating at Flying Mango on a previous Sunday, we decided to go there tonight. We could've walked, but it was kinda stormy and threatening to rain, so we drove.

So it was fairly empty when we got there, many spare tables and etc, but we went in anyways.

We were greeted by who I believe was either the owner or the head cook. So he sat us down while make a joke about maybe not having enough places for us to sit.

We sat near the front window where we had a nice view of the traffic.

So we looked at the menu and it all sounded very good, but I had trouble deciding what I wanted.

Shannon had half a smoked chicken and on the side she had the potato of the day which was pretty good and also had corn bread with honey butter.

I had the smoked meat mix, which was smoked chicken, some ribs and beef brisket. On the side I had a sweet potato pancake with mango sauce and fire grilled and spiced apples.

The sweet potato pancake was ok...but I've never been a huge fan of sweet potatoes. The grilled apples were actually very good. Sweet and still a bit firm. We both enjoyed them. Shannon has the potato of the day and I don't remember what it was called, but it was quite tasty. The cornbread and honey butter were tasty too.

All the meat was done in the Memphis style of BBQ (dry rub, then smoked for a long time). The brisket was tasty and fairly tender, enough so I didn't need a sharp knife to cut it. The ribs were tasty, and fairly tender, my hands got a little bit messy, but the cloth napkin kept me fairly clean. Now the chicken....the chickens (mine and shannon's) were very dark on the outside, but once you got past the skin the chicken on the inside was very tender juicy and smokey...and not the fake smokey flavor from liquid smoke, but real long term smoking. Sooo good. And for one that isn't a fan of taking chicken off the bone, I got every last piece of meat off of there.

The sauce on the table, which is their custom sauce. Which by itself was tangy and good, but combined with the smoked meat, was just very very good.

We finished off the dinner by having Ginger Cake...yeah that's right, Ginger Cake. the cake was very good, but it was kinda small so we polished off quickly. It was a very dense cake with a lite frosting. I was pretty happy, since I love ginger. It was quite yummy.

So definately worth a vist or two. I wanna go back and try some of the other things.

It wasn't dreadfully expensive either.
