Moving, Land of the Dead, 2005 Des Moines Art Festival

So Saturday morning, bright and early our alarms go off and we get ready for the day. A little after 7:30 AM Brandon arrives, and while it is raining (pouring more like), Brandon and I head over to the rental place and Shannon heads over to to her apartment.

So apprently the computers were down at the rental place. So we had to wait....and wait...and wait...and wait. It was quite obnoxious. Eventually the computers came back up and we finally got our truck and Brandon drove it over to Shannon's apartment.

So we meet over there, and I got a call from Jen who said that she and Dusty were on their way.

Brandon and I moved forward, and moved out her matresses and couch.

Eventually Jen and Dusty showed up and the moving began in earnest.

Between Brandon's moving and packing prowess, and Dusty's packing ability, we packed up right quick.

On the way back to my house, Dusty, Brandon and I head over to Val's uncle's house to pick up a dining room table. Val showed up there too. The table was very beautiful. A little loose and beat up on the undersides, but over all still in quite good quality. Very nice. After chatting with Val's Uncle (Thanks!) we packed up the table and headed over to my house.

When we got home, Dave, Jerry and Renee were also there, and started to help with the unpacking. The area was a bit crowded, since there were many garage sales in the area. Moving in went pretty well, until we got to Shannon's couch. My house has small doors, so moving things through them is often pretty diffucult. Brandon removed the door to the downstairs, we removed the doors to game cloest in the basement and remove the lights above. Basically anything to increase the space for moving the couch downstairs. We discovered that there was no way we'd be able to get it downstairs.

So we tried again through the door from the basement to the garage. We took the door off, and Dave and Dusty were able to just barely squeeze the couch into the laundry room and then it went fine from there to the family room downstairs (easily seen by my webcam). Woo!

So Brandon and I took the truck back, and when we returned, Dave, Jerry and Renee had taken off. So Dusty, Brandon, Jen, Shannon and I headed over to Rock Bottom Brew Pub (Brandon picked up Val on his way over). We ate, and stuffed ourselves and drank some beer...mmm...stout.

Afterwards, Shannon and I headed to our house and started to put things away, moving things around, setting up her bed. Pretty much got the family room organized, our bedroom, and about half way on the kitchen and the spare bedroom. The dining room is still quite messy though.

We were both pretty tired, so Shannon stayed home to take a nice long bath, and I headed out, after taking a shower.

I headed over to Josh's and I met up with him and Mandie. We headed out to see Land of the Dead. Chris called and invited me out to go bowling, and I told him that I'd tell Josh (I did), and ask Shannon if she wanted to go (she didn't, she was in her PJ's by the time I called her). It is nice to be invited out though. I gotta say that I liked it, but it wasn't as good as the Dawn of the Dead remake. Gory. Violent. Growingly aware zombies.

Enter the rantman:

So at this movie, it wasn't very crowded, but what did surprise me was the number of children in the theater. Now there are some movies that may be rated R that may be ok to show to a child...may...but probably not. There were not just one or two, but SEVERAL children at the theater. I could see maybe like something, but a zombie flick? Come on? What kind of parents or guardians, or caretakers take children to see a ZOMBIE movie? These were not teenagers these were children probably ranging in age from 3 to 9.

Ugh!

Exit the rantman

After the movie, we headed back to Josh's and after talking about getting a drink, then told drinking stories and after a while, I barrowed Josh's laptop (to burn off a dvd of Shannon and my trip to KC) and headed home.

This morning we got up, got ready for the day, watched Hollywood Homocide, which was...well...just awful...I mean really bad. Dry, boring, and stupid. Ugh.

Eventually her parents arrived.

They toured the house, played with George for a bit and then we all headed down to Des Moines Arts Festival. It was nice. There was acutally a couple of pieces that I would've really liked to acquire, however, being cash poor at this time, I was unable to. There was a couple of long exposure photos that were just awesome. The water looked so real, and just way cool. *sigh* Oh well. It was dreadfully hot out though and that was awful. On our way down the final part of the Art fair, we ran into Chris and Holly...now I know I said I would call them, but who really wants to hang out with someone else's parents? Espically when you don't know them at all.

Afterwards, we came back here and eventually Shannon's parents headed home.

A good weekend over all.

Next weekend is the 4th, the weekend after is gonna be my celebration for my birthday. mmm...getting older.

Shannon bought me a gift, and wrapped it all up... I dunno what it is, but I'm curious.
