Movies and Callie's Birthday

So on Thursday, we headed over to Chris and Holly's on Thursday to watch On the Waterfront. It's always nice to spend time with Chris and Holly, but the move was...well...Long. Not one of my favorites that we've watched in this series.

Wednesday night, We went to the theater to see Casino Royale. Which was actually really good. At one part we were confused, because we thought the movie was over...but then it turned out to have a whole new line of plot line. Quite fun...good villains good plot twists, and because it's early bond, the tries at the cute bond quips were not quite there yet...Although the scratching his nuts line was hilarious....

Coming back towards the present. We headed down to Cedar Rapids and the Mattas to go to Callie's first birthday party. Apparently a few people had canceled on them, so they were looking forward to the company. We saw Jane, her husband and little girl, who I haven't seen since high school or sometime around then. Other then her hair cut, she looked pretty much the same (though happier). So we drove through the freezing rain...where the roads weren't really a problem, after we got on the interstate at least. Going down it wasn't so bad.

So We had some baked pasta and some salad, both of which were really good, and a little cake from Target, which was pretty good. The pasta, as Nathan told me on the phone, was basically equal parts cheese and sausage with a bit less pasta...so needless to say it was very cheesy.

Callie was very cute and messy (pasta was all over her), and initially rejected her cake (she was probably full) but a bit later her Gramma (Jenny's Mom) fed her a little and she realized what it was and suddenly wanted cake and frosting. After Callie was all cleaned up we opened up presents (We got her a stuffed dog with a huge head). It was a fun night.

Driving home was a...well...interesting. Because of the freezing rain kept coming down, we kept the speed down, but we had to stop a couple of times to get frozen ice off the wipers. It was actually the first time I had to take my heating settings off of auto. We probably shouldn't have been driving. There were encrusted ice on the side view mirrors and the headlights and etc. it was neat to look at.

We got home safe around 1:AM or 1:30 and I parked my car in the garage (to melt the layers of ice) and headed to bed.
